Come and Try events can be used as a promotional tool to attract new members and introduce them to your club. New members may come from a feeder Learn to Swim program, local school swimming program or school swimming carnival.

Anyone interested in becoming a new member at your club can take part in a club night for free. The SNSW insurance policy allows new members up to four free tries at the club before they are required to register. Club rules may vary so check your local Club for their own policy.

Swimming NSW may be able to assist with collateral, banners and other signage to help make your event more fun. Just let us know when you need them and we will see what we have. Yampu the dolphin mascot may even be available to make a visit to your club! Just ask!

Take Your Marks Come and Try Program

Take Your Marks is a new program developed by Swimming NSW aimed at introducing young people (5-12yrs/Kindergarten-Yr 6) to the sport of swimming and to help clubs with acquiring new junior members. ‘Come and Try’ events are a great segway for clubs and link between learn to swim and club participation.

Take your Marks Come and Try program for swimming clubs

The four-hour program is a fun way for school-aged kids to ‘come & try’ swimming and a cost-effective option for parents to check out your club. Children of all abilities are able to participate, including multiclass swimmers.

It’s also an easy program for clubs to implement, with plenty of flexibility to allow clubs to deliver the program in ways that suit them best.

If your club operates out of a pool with a learn to swim program, your club has the opportunity to encourage members to participate at your club that may not have registered previously. Anyone interested in becoming a new member at your club is welcome. Our insurance policy allows new members up to four free tries at a club before they are required to register.

Families who have already registered swimmers with your club squads may have siblings who will be happy to be part of your club.

Read the Take Your Marks program booklet and games guide to learn more about the program. We have also created some materials to assist with promoting the program to potential members, which you can find here.

If you have any questions about Take Your Marks, please get in touch with your local Club Support Officer.
