2022-2023 Multicultural Membership Drive

Swimming NSW has partnered with the multicultural outreach and communications experts at the LOTE Agency to encourage diverse community members to join swimming clubs across NSW as part of our 2022-2023 registration season membership drive.

The LOTE Agency’s approach is unique. While they develop marketing and communications materials translated into various languages, they also utilise their network to reach Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities in non-traditional ways, such as:

  • working with leaders and other influential individuals within the targeted communities
  • engaging in online closed groups
  • reaching out to CALD media outlets
  • engaging with migrant service centres, peak bodies and other community groups that attract CALD members of targeted communities

The LOTE Agency have been provided with a list of Swimming NSW’s 306 clubs so they can engage organisations outside of our traditional reach, and refer interested parties back to a club they may be interested in joining.

Membership Campaign Information

As part of this engagement campaign, diverse communities will be informed about the positive, welcoming environment swimming clubs are for CALD community members.

Communications materials will be provided to Swimming NSW and club stakeholders in three targeted languages other than English: Arabic, Chinese Simplified and Chinese Traditional.

The key messages of this campaign are 1) registrations are open for the 2022-2023 season and 2) CALD members can use an Active Kids voucher to join a club (which we know has been a significant driver of memberships the past two seasons).

Marketing materials include:

  • one social media graphic with the above messaging in English, Arabic, Chinese Simplified and Chinese Traditional
  • social media copy with the above messaging, translated as above
  • a comprehensive stakeholder pack with complete information about Swimming NSW, clubs and info about this campaign.

The LOTE Agency will also launch a four-week PR campaign, commencing the week of 5 September, engaging with all groups mentioned in the above accordion. During this time, clubs can use these multicultural resources to publish their own posts on social media, but more importantly, clubs should be prepared to receive queries about their registration season.

Marketing Materials

Marketing materials in four languages are now available to download from our Marketing and Promotions page.

New club websites – Swimming Australia websites to cease 30 June
new club websites swimming club

In this social media age, club websites continue to have an important role in recruiting new and supporting existing members. Club websites are the ideal location for hosting information online including training times, upcoming events, membership information, coach details and more.

With Swimming Australia closing it’s free club website platform on 30 June 2022, Swimming NSW has been working with Swim.Rocks to refresh the club website service that has been used by some clubs for several years. Swim.Rocks are independent of Swimming NSW and their support to the community includes a free podcast that shares “ideas, information and inspiration between swimming people who stay dry”!

The Swim.Rocks club websites offering

  • Website shell for clubs to fill with their own content, hosted and with technical support.
  • yourname.swimmingclub.org.au domain name. Please note that the continuance of existing Swimming Australia club domains is not possible.
  • Redisplay of club Facebook feed.
  • Instructions for uploading and editing content.
  • Popular WordPress platform which is continually upgraded and can be migrated elsewhere in future if necessary, without lock-in.

This service will be offered at $400pa. In addition to the above an optional content migration service will be available for an additional charge of $1,000 discounted to $600 if paid by 6th May. Pricing includes GST.

Full details of this offer including its visual design will be available by 19th April. New Swim.Rocks club websites will be available at any time after that, but clubs wishing to use the optional content migration service will need to commit and pay by 6th May.

How to prepare

In preparation for these changes we encourage clubs to identify a lead person to oversee any transition, and update content periodically in future. We recommend you locate the login details to your existing Swimming Australia hosted site so that existing content can be easily retrieved before the platform is closed.

To ensure that all clubs have the opportunity to investigate this way forward for their websites, and to migrate across from the Swimming Australia platform by the end of June we ask all clubs using the existing Swimming Australia platforms to consider their options and decide if they would like to proceed with the Swim.Rocks option by 6th May here https://swim.rocks/websites/

Key dates

  • 19 April – the full website offer (design, pricing, etc.,) will be available from Swim.Rocks
  • 6 May – lock in your agreement to use the Swim.Rocks platform to take advantage of the discounted migrating service fee
  • 30 June – Swimming Australia club websites cease operation
Active Kids Vouchers
Young female swimmers part of the Active Kids Program in Active Kids voucher program

The NSW Government* is helping kids get active with the Active Kids program. The program, launched in 2018, provides parents, guardians and carers with a voucher twice per calendar year which can be applied towards the cost of active sport and recreation fees valued up to $100 (twice) for each student enrolled in school. The voucher has been developed to reduce the cost of sport registration or membership fees for after-school, weekend and structured fitness or physical activity, that runs for a duration of eight weeks or more.

Voucher one is valid January to December and Voucher two is valid July to December.

Please note that providers will be reimbursed the actual value of the activity up to $100 and do not automatically receive $100 for each voucher.

Swimming NSW has registered all affiliated clubs in NSW with the Office of Sport. You can find information on how to administer the Active Kids program here.

Claiming Active Kids Vouchers

Parents/guardians can apply online at the Service NSW Website.

Once the required information is completed, an alpha-numeric voucher code will be provided that can then be used to offset the cost of physical activity participation. The voucher can only be redeemed for one sport per calendar year Vouchers are valid for redemption during the current calendar year and will expire at the end of the calendar year. Vouchers cannot be used retrospectively.

*Please note this program is not available for ACT clubs or residents.
